Equipment investment: hero gear, governor gear and charms
Choose your next equipment upgrade by separating hero gear, governor gear and charms, then comparing troop roles, slots and material shortfalls.
Identify the upgrade system first
When materials are limited, first decide whether you are upgrading hero gear, governor gear or governor charms. Their effects and materials differ. Connect each investment to the formation you actually use and the problem it faces, rather than comparing only the increase in Power.
- Hero gear: helmets, gloves, armor and boots equipped on heroes. Consider the hero, troop type and slot together. Normal enhancement and Mastery Forging are separate upgrade paths.
- Governor gear: six slots worn by the governor. Check which troop type each slot improves, then plan around the stage’s required Satin, Threads, Artisan’s Sketches and other listed materials.
- Governor charms: a separate growth system attached to governor gear. Gear quality and charm level are different. Check Charm Guides, Charm Designs and the affected troop type separately.
Match hero gear slots to the hero’s role
For an Infantry hero holding the front line, start by comparing the survival-related attributes of gloves and armor. For an Archer hero who needs more damage output, compare the offensive attributes of the helmet and boots. These are starting points, not fixed enhancement ratios. Read the actual attributes and gains in the equipment window, then relate them to that hero’s role in your formation.
Cavalry gear does not always have to come last, and all four slots do not have to remain at an identical level. Your next choice depends on whether you use Cavalry heavily, whether that hero loses survivability first, and how far its equipment trails your other troop types. Review Arena formations and expedition troop roles separately.
Keep enhancement XP separate from the Forging Hammers used for Mastery Forging. A hammer is not simply a material for creating a new piece of gear: check the mastery upgrade of your existing equipment. If higher upgrades require additional materials, inspect the next stage’s full requirement list before spending.
Compare governor gear and charms by troop type
- Helmet and necklace: Cavalry governor gear slots.
- Armor and pants: Infantry governor gear slots.
- Ring and staff: Archer governor gear slots.
A similarly named slot can serve a different purpose in hero gear and governor gear. Upgrading a hero’s helmet is therefore not the same investment as upgrading the governor’s helmet. For charms, first identify the troop type of the gear they are attached to.
When comparing a concentrated upgrade with bringing several pieces to a set bonus threshold, record both the extra effects currently shown in the equipment window and the material requirements. Completing a set does not automatically make a rarely used troop type your priority, but an approaching set bonus is also a reason to reconsider repeatedly upgrading just one piece.
Calculate only the shortfall to your next target
- Define a narrow goal: one survival-slot upgrade for your main Infantry hero, one governor gear quality step for Archers, or one charm level for a troop type you use often.
- Subtract inventory and guaranteed materials arriving before the target date from the requirements. If nothing remains, reconsider whether you need to acquire more of that material now.
- Do not combine XP, hammers, governor gear materials and charm materials into one total. Allocate each selection chest once, and keep expected random-chest outcomes separate from confirmed stock.
- Check milestone rewards and sources you can actually use. If comparing packs, use their current contents and prices to evaluate the materials you still need.
As a fictional planning example, a target requiring 100 units, with 60 in inventory and 20 guaranteed before the deadline, leaves a shortfall of 20. These are not game cost values. Counting unopened random rewards as another guaranteed 20 can leave the plan underfunded.
Two examples of choosing the next upgrade
A formation whose front line falls first
Compare battle reports under similar conditions to check whether Infantry survivability is the issue. Then review the next steps for the Infantry hero’s survival slots, Infantry governor gear and Infantry charms separately. Their material paths differ; do not assume all resources can be converted into one system. One battle with a different formation or troop count is insufficient to settle the upgrade priority.
Preparing for Bear Hunt or rally participation
Choose your main heroes and the troop types you will actually send, then identify the missing upgrades on the equipment that formation uses. Rally leaders and participants may contribute different stats and hero effects. Do not assume your own gear upgrade improves the whole rally by the same amount. Once participation requirements are covered, compare the next milestone’s cost and usefulness in other modes.
Check the requirements for your target stage
Use the governor gear material table, governor charm material table and Mastery Forging reference. Select the interval from your current stage to your target, without adding completed stages again.
